Employment creation is the single most important factor if rural communities are to survive. Strategic Objectives- To arrest the population decline in the area.
- To Promote and Market the area as an attractive location for Enterprise Development and as a Holiday Destination.
- SCC IRD is endeavouring to ensure that all basic village services (sewerage/ water) infrastructure is put in-place / or upgraded to acceptable EU Environmental Standards.
- SCC IRD is providing key Enterprise Infrastructure in the area including - Enterprise Space, Technology and Training.
- IRD will seek to ensure a Heritage Database is drawn-up and maintained to help Promote and also Protect the heritage of the area.
- SCC IRD is championing the cause for once-off rural housing in the area.
- IRD is providing social/affordable rental housing in the area for individuals and families that are not in a position to buy their own home.
- IRD will seek to evaluate and address/highlight issues faced by the farming community in the area.
- IRD will evaluate and develop initiatives to capitalise on our huge sea resource that exists in the area.
- IRD developing tourism initiatives to increase the economic potential on the Ring of Kerry.
- IRD is developing a funding strategy to ensure that services of an IRD office will be self-financing.
- SCC IRD will seek the help of government bodies and outside agencies in the activities of rural regeneration.
